Mega Chandelure

The second time I hear the bang, I am sure I was not imaging it. When I turn though, there is nothing, as the hall had been moments earlier. The walls are stone, I tell myself. Sounds travels easily. If anyone's here, they're a long way off.

But I pick up my pace anyway, my cloak trailing behind me. There is a creaking noise the lantern I hold makes, but otherwise, the hallway fell into silence once more. The whole manor was deserted, as soon as I came here. Not a soul to be seen, though that was already expected. I suddenly hear the bang again. It's closer, I can tell. I sprint.

I barely notice the walls, as they blur past me. I make out the indistinct figure of scones filled with wax though, and I see an unlit candle in another. I am running, the bangs now ringing louder. Then I see it, and I stop dead in my tracks, a cold chill running through me.

Flames. Violet flames. Floating flames. Moving flames.

Am I finally losing it? I bit back a scream and turn around, but to my horror, something heavy slams into me. I can only make out its haunting yellow eyes before I feel a brush of steel and a painful prick, and the nothingness that swallows me.
